A Way of Seeing. Photographs by Helen Levitt. Essay by James Agee.Viking Press, New York, 1965. 78 pp. First edition. Small oblong quarto. Printed black cloth. Photo-illustrated library protected dust jacket. 50 gravure illustrations.
Although most of the pictures in this book were taken by 1948, it did not appear until 1965. Writing in the The Book of 101 Books, Vince Aletti refers to the images as "...an episodic montage--bleak, antic, poignant; sometimes melodramatic, often comic--at once suggestively narrative and as ephemeral as a passing glance." A first edition seminal book in wonderful conditon (it was subsequently re-issued twice).
Fine in a Fine, well-protected, dust jacket with just a trace of edge wear; a tad bit of soiling to top page edges.
