THIS LOT CONSISTS OF TWO BOOKS ILLUSTRATED WITH PHOTOGRAPHS BY MARGARET
BOURKE-WHITE: You Have Seen Their Faces and Our Cornell.
You Have Seen Their Faces. Text by Erskine Caldwell. Photographs by Margaret Bourke-White. Modern Age Books, Inc., New York, 1937. Gold Seal Edition. Large quarto. Stiff photo-illustrated wrappers. 54 pp. text with sections of captioned halftone photographs interspersed. An engrossing depression-era book by the husband-wife team, with images taken in numerous rural areas throughout Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Includes both iconic and little-known Bourke-White photographs.
A very good copy, with some rubbing near top and bottom of spine, crease in the outer bottom corner and some soft handling creases in back cover, and very minor rubbing at some edges. The interior is clean and fresh, with faint echo of bottom creased corner on last four pages.
Our Cornell. Illustrated by Margaret Bourke-White and Barrett Gallagher. The Cayuga Press, Ithaca, 1939. Second printing (three months after the first printing). Duodecimo. Gilt-stamped cloth. Preliminaries + 77 pp. text + seven interspersed plates of green-toned halftone photographs of the Cornell University campus; four of the photographic plates are by Bourke-White, who graduated in the Cornell Class of 1927. A very fine copy of a little-known Bourke-White book (one very small quarter-inch mark on back cover). |
