Musashino Fubutsu--Shashinshu (Musashino Scenes--A Book of Photographs). Edited with photographs by Shinzo Fukuhara with additional photos by members of the Nihon Shashinkai [Japan Photographic Society, founded by Fukuhara in 1924] including Hachiemon Kawai, Shiro Sawabe and Minoru Minami. Seibunsha, O¯saka, 1943. 159 pp. Quarto. First printing. Hardbound with plain dust jacket and glassine wrapper. Printed slipcase. Black-and-white reproductions.
Images of the landscape and religious culture in the region of Musashino. A gorgeous book that reflects the distance traveled from the soft-focus, pictorialist tendencies of Japanese photo culture of the 1920s (seen in Fukuhara's books of that period) toward a more decisively modernist aesthetics. Quite rare--only two copies in OCLC
Near Fine in Near Fine jacket and case; bump to one corner with some wear to board edges; a few tiny chips to (very fragile) jacket, with one 1/2" repaired tear; slight bump to case at top of spine; fading about typical. |
