Factory Valleys. Photographs by Lee Friedlander. Afterword by Leslie George Katz. New York, Callaway Editions, 1982. 80 pp. First edition. Signed on front fly-leaf. Clothbound in library protected dust jacket. Edition of 1000 copies. Squarish quarto. 62 duotone offset lithographic reproductions.
This 1982 Friedlander book is a selection of work he made while on commission for the Akron Art Institute in 1979. During this time, Friedlander photographed the towns and workers in and around the Ohio River Valley. Friedlander's sharp eye, formal brilliance and wit combine to form insight into the contemporary social and industrial landscape. "Not since the Great Depression has a series of images shown the factory world with the clarity that this book does."--Leslie Katz in the afterword.
Protected dust jacket has light soiling as well as one small chip in upper corner; book is very slightly corner bumped and has some foxing to upper foredges.
