Krass Clement: Berlin Notat (Berlin Note). Gyldendal, Denmark, 2003. 205 pp. Large quarto. First edition. Clothbound in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Black-and-white reproductions.
Clement's brilliantly moody street photography deserves to be better known on American shores. Though his 1996 book Drum is included in Parr/Badger volume II, most of his other books, including this one remain quite scarce. This stream-of-conscious portrait of Berlin draws on pictures taken during three distinct periods: 1963-1967; November 11-12, 1989 (during the fall of the Berlin Wall); in 1990; and finally in 2002-2003.
Among the most amazing 'city' books every produced, it is a must for fans of John Gossage's Berlin books, of course, but also those who worship at the alter of Moriyama!
