Peyton's images of her friend Craig Watling, of the collective Art Club 2000, are juxtaposed with images of, among many subjects, the British royal family during the time of Princess Diana's death. In creating her jewel-like portriats, which feature her own pantheon of Romantic pop icons, Peyton, like painters going back to Degas, draws heavily from photographic sources, both her own and in the media. This volume takes her relationship with photography as its subject; the result is a fantastic photobook--far more than the sum of its parts--and a key to understanding one of the most celebrated painters of the last couple of decades.
