Allen Ginsberg: Neal Cassady & Natalie Jackson, Market Street, San Francisco, 1955
Silver gelatin print
Paper size: 11 x 14 in.
Printed late 1980's
Initialed by the Ginsberg Estate executor, Bob Rosenthal, with stamp: '©Allen Ginsberg Trust/Trustee Bob Rosenthal/The photograph was printed before 4/5/97 under the supervision of Allen Ginsberg.'
In a later caption for this image Ginsberg wrote, "Cassady had been prototype for Kerousac's late 40's On the Road saga hero Dean Moriarity, as in later 1960's he'd take the whell of Ken Kesey's psychedelic era crosscountry bus "Further." His illuminated American automobile mania and erotic enery had already written his name in bright-lit signs of our literary imagination before movies were made imitating his Charm."
The archetypal Beat and hippie-to-be: Cassady in the shadow of Brando!
Trace of wear at one corner; a few flecks in margins; else excellent, unblemished surface. |
