Secrets of the Dark Chamber. The Art of The American Daguerreotype. Text by Merry Foresta and John Wood. National Museum of American Art and Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington, D.C., 1995. First Edition. Red decorative cloth with an image tipped onto the front cover; no jacket as issued. Octavo, 240 pages, 152 color illustrations.

One of the finest books ever published on the daguerreotype, Secrets of the Dark Chamber is a work of art unto itself. Clothbound, with exquisitely reproduced full-color illustrations of the artworks, including their original case art, this book contains more than 150 masterpieces, two-thirds of which had never before been published. The texts by Merry Foresta and John Wood are at once informative and entertaining, detailing the wonder with which the daguerreotype was originally received. The clothbound print run was only a 1000 copies.

As new in publisher's shrinkwrap.
