Prior to taking this portrait in 1968, Linda McCartney had already worked as house photographer at the Fillmore East, shooting such rock and roll luminaries as The Doors, The Who, Otis Redding, B.B. King, The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, The Beach Boys, Cream, The Kinks, Traffic, Jimi Hendrix and many more. In 1968, Linda was in London to shoot an assignment on the 'Swinging Sixties'. It was on this trip that she met Paul McCartney, first at the Bag O'Nails Club and then four days later at the launch of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at the home of manager Brian Epsteinin Belgravia. Before marrying Paul a year later, she made this iconic portrait of John.
Tiny, 1 mm. spot left of center; upper edge verso shows a bit of abrasion & residue from previous mounting.
