Shibata’s large-format blank-and-white photographs use an abstract visual vocabulary to depict monumental engineering projects and their natural surroundings. Concrete netting holds mountain sides in place and immense dams, mostly located in the American West and Japan, repose on the landscape with a regal quietude.
