Jacob Molenhuis (1894-1987) was the only professional photographer in the region of Northern Holland where he spent his entire life. Life Mike Disfarmer in the U.S., he spent his career quietly photographing ordinary people in and around his hometown. He left behind an archive of nearly six thousand glass plate negatives. This inspired pairing sheds fascinating light on the sometimes inscrutable art of portrait photography.
