THIS LOT CONSISTS OF FOUR BOOKS ON EUROPEAN CITIES: Tony Armstrong Jones, London; Robert Doisneau, My Paris; Evelyn Hofer, Dublin; Nico Jesse, Utrecht as It Is.

London. Tony Armstrong Jones. E. P. Dutton & Company, New York, 1958. First edition. Quarto. Gilt-titled cloth. Unpaged. A visually engrossing study of the English capital city; some of the images have a grainy, atmospheric quality while others use movement to show spontaneity. Better known as a former royal insider, Armstrong Jones was an accomplished photographer. A very good copy, with minor wear at corner tips and ends of spine.

My Paris. Text by Maurice Chevalier. Photographs by Robert Doisneau. The Macmillan Company, New York/ Collier-Macmillan Ltd., London, 1972. First edition. Quarto. Silver-titled cloth. 153 pp. A light-hearted look at the Paris of lovers, children, workers and artists, in black-and-white gravure and glossy color halftone images. A very good copy with faint edge discoloration and inscription of former owner on front endpaper; a somewhat worn photo-illustrated dustjacket laid in.

Dublin. A Portrait. Text by V.S. Pritchett. Photographs by Evelyn Hofer. The Bodley Head, London, Sydney and Toronto, 1967. First edition. Quarto. Gilt-titled cloth in photo-illustrated dustjacket. 99 pp. text with seventy-eight black-and-white gravure photographs and sixteen color photographs interspersed. Hofer's evocative images of Dublin and its people have a lucidity that is characteristic of her still under-appreciated work. Her images pay homage to the city's history while showing contemporary life. A fine copy in a serviceable dustjacket with some edge-wear and wrinkling of the protective layer of laminate.

Utrecht as It is - Zo is Utrecht. Photographe by Nico Jesse. Text by C. A. Schilp. Lankamp & Brinkman, Amsterdam, 1950. First edition. Small quarto. Cloth-backed boards in photo-illustrated dustjacket. 9 pp. text + 74 halftone photographs by Jesse showing Utrecht and vicinity, including street scenes, architectural views and canals, an Industries fair, street markets, steel works, the countryside. A near fine copy with transfer darkening from the dusjacket onto the endpapers and faint spotting on spine; minor edgewear and light soiling to the back panel of the dustjacket.
