"In terms of its impact and importance, the the influence of Hollandse Taferelen on 1990s Dutch photography can hardly be overstated."--The Dutch Photobook
"When the apartment of Dutch photojournalist Hans Aarsman (Amsterdam, NL, 1951) was torn down in 1988, he bought a camper and travelled through the Netherlands for a year. Each week one of his photos was published in the Dutch newspaper Trouw, along with a diary-style text. This mixture of distant photos and personal reflections on both photography and his own personal life were made into the now-legendary book Hollandse Taferelen [Dutch Tableaux]"--FOAM
"In 2006, following the acquisition of the series Hollandse taferelen by the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam, the photographer decided to make the 99 photographs available online for free, as a special project. Moreover, anyone who sent two printed copies of Waterhuizen, maximum size A3, to the Fotomuseum would in return receive one copy back signed by Aarsman himself. The photographer and museum hoped that this would result in a unique collection of prints, a mirror of the contemporary quality of the home printer and material for a lively discussion about artistic quality, reproducibility and both the intrinsic and financial value of photography.--STEDELIJK MUSEUM
