PhotoGrids. Sol LeWitt. David Paul Press/ Rizzoli, New York, 1977. First edition. Square quarto. Stiff white wrappers with black title. Unpaged.
A scarce book of forty-six plates, each with nine color photographs taken and arranged in a tic-tac-toe grid by the artist with an eye to pattern. Subjects include paneled doors, window panes, gates and fences, cement and mosaic floors, metal bridgework, etc. Three years later LeWitt published Autobiography, which used the same grid format to tell the story of his daily life.
LeWitt, An American conceptual and minimalist artist born in 1928, is best known for his work using modular cubes, wall drawings, serial graphics, and grid structures.
A very good copy with numerous light surface scratches on back cover and minor flaws on front cover; interior in fine condition.
