Printed on the eve of the Czech coup d'état of 1948, Vlcek's images show all the aesthetic strategies of the New Objectivity and the mid-1930's Czech avant-garde, now deployed toward rather more blatantly sinister aims. Like Jenicek & Sutnar's books from the 30s on offer here, we see a fascinating blend of propaganda, straight reportage and cutting edges aesthetics.
