The Cats of Wildcat Hill. Photographs by Edward Weston. Text by Charis Wilson. Duell, Sloan, and Pearce, New York, 1947. 90 pp. Oblong quarto. First printing. Clothbound in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Black-and-white reproductions.

This classic in the micro-genre of cat photography is Weston at his most charming! The Cats of Wildcat Hill is a side project that in many ways punctures the aura of Modernist seriousness that Weston's most famous work exudes. Illustrated throughout with full-page halftone photographs of the cats that shared Weston and Charis Wilson's home just south of Carmel, California. The couple decided to host a "colony" of cats on their two acres, wanting to study their behavior as well as enjoy their company. Wilson's text is a lively and entertaining history of the colony, full of wonderful insights into the vicissitudes of feline behavior!

Fine-; tanning to endpapers; light wear to extremities; base of spine very slightly 'pushed'. Fragile jacket is Very Good- with slight loss at edges; well-preserved in mylar with tears along rear joints front fore-edge.
