Tulsa. Photographs by Larry Clark. First hardbound edition (first published in wrappers by Lustrum Press in 1971; though still dated 1971, this hardbound edition was self-published by Clark in 1979; 400 were signed and numbered and offered with a print). Quarto. Unpaged. SIGNED and hand-numbered by Clark on title page. Clothbound in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Black-and-white reproductions. Accompanied by silver gelatin print, 'Dead, 1970' (8 x 10 in.; signed and numbered on verso; in numbered archival sleeve).

So familiar by now, yet it's influence cannot be understated! "The initial shock of Tulsa was that it was photographed from inside the story, and this changed everything. It created the possibility of a thoroughly implicated self-consciousness in documentary, a way to collapse the distance and include the observer all the way in, till death do us part, and it worked because of the mysterious and undeniable relation between photographs and death..." David Levi Strauss in Roth, et. al., The Book of 101 Books.

Fine-; a bit of wear to extremities; upper corners slightly less than perfect; a few spots of smudging from signature on verso of half-title page; jacket Near Fine+; wear at crown of spine and 'tips'.
