Nicaragua, June 1978-July 1979. Photographs by Susan Meiselas. Edited with Claire Rosenberg. Pantheon, New York, 1981. 117 pp. Oblong quarto. First edition. SIGNED on half-title page, dated 2/5/99. Stiff photo-illustrated wrappers. 71 color reproductions.

Photojournalist Susan Meiselas covered the 1978-79 Sandanista uprising in Nicaragua from its beginnings through its eventual overthrow of the repressive Somoza regime. In this volume she has edited her best work into a chronological account of that conflict. This is more than just war photography, however. The color images hauntingly put us in touch with the lives of the people of the war, participants and bystanders alike. Battlefield horrors and the sufferings of the civilian population are straight-forwardly depicted, but we are also made to feel the elation of the popular forces in victory.

Near Fine+; Moderate edge wear and rubbing; small nick at crown of spine; short corner crease rear panel.
