One Among the most famous and popular photographers of his time, Jeanloup Sieff's career has undergone slow but steady revival. A huge 2012 fashion retrospective from Prestel that featured an essay by Gaulic fashion impresario Oliver Zahm (of Purple Magazine & Diary fame). Sieff was best known his photography of nudes and fashion; less known, and totally underrated, are his haunting and spacious landscapes, notably of the African Savannah and of Death Valley. As in his figurative work, the ultra wide-angle lenses and soft contours are pure lifted right from New Wave cinema. The grainy monochrome creates an austere spaciousness that is surreal in its vastness and elemental simplicity.

He died on 20th September 2000 at the age of 66.

Three small areas of abrasion on verso; a few tiny flecks to emulsion; very faint pucker upper center of image (visible only in raking light).
