Motherland: Recent Landscapes from Georgia and Virginia. Photographs and text by Sally Mann. Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York, 1997. 56 pp. Folio. First edition of 3000 copies. SIGNED on title page. Stiff photo-illustrated wrappers. Tritone reproductions.
A book devoted to Sally Mann's large-scale southern landscape work that was published to accompany an exhibition at the Edwynn Houk Gallery in New York. In her introductory text, Mann wrote: "...when I am in the pastures making my own images it is the light that leads into suspended time. The photographs created there...embrace time and memory and become the still point at which they intersect. As always, that stillness brings longing and a dizzying, time-unraveling spiral into the radical light of the American South." Beautifully reproduced images by Meridian Printing.
