L'Assassinat de Baltard. Photographs by Jean-Claude Gautrand. Text by Andre´ Laude; Marc Pellerin. Formule 13 editeur, Paris, 1972. 56 p. Large oblong quarto. (24 x 30 cm.) First edition. Stiff illustrated wrappers. Black-and-white reproductions.

Included in Parr/Badger, The Photobook: A History, vol. III. In 1972 Jean-Claude Gautrand he shot a series of images of the demolition of the old market hall in Paris, 'les halles de Baltard' and title it 'L’Assassinat de Baltard'. The drama of elegant nineteenth century steel construction subjected--the very height of Modernity in its time--subjected to the relenting power of modern explosives and the chiaroscuro in the billowing dust clouds combine to create an unmistakable 'Steampunk' vibe. Quite scarce. Highly recommended!

About Fine; light rubbing and wear to edges; fragile hinge.
