The Photographs of David Seymour.
Photographs by Chim (David Seymour). Text by Cornell Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Bulfinch, Boston, 1996. 192 pp., 155 duotone illustrations, 10x11".
Although David Seymour co-founded the Magnum agency, he has never received the popular recognition that his partners Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and George Rogder have attained. This long over due retrospective monograph fleshes out the vision of one of the twentieth century's most sensitive chroniclers. Beginning with the French Front Populaire and the Spanish Civil War, Chim witnessed the devastation of WWII and the birth of Israel. This title accompanies the ICP's travelling retrospective honoring the fortieth anniversary of Chim's death by sniper fire at the Suez Canal. Intro by Inge Bondi.
