Photographs by Sebastião Salgado. Poetry by Chico Buarque de Hollanda. Text by Jose Saramago.
Chronicle Books, San Francisco, 1997. 144 pp., 109 duotone illustrations, 9½x13".
Salgado's latest title explores the heroism of farmers and workers in Brazil, a country where land distribution and wealth are incomparably biased towards the wealthy. His images focus on the spirit and plight of displaced agricultural workers, exploited goldminers, and others from the working disadvantaged class.
