As a child growing up in Paris toward the end of the 1950s, French photographer Bernard Plossu was fascinated by the classic Westerns showing in the movie theatres. As a young man, he realized his boyhood dream, travelling extensively through the American southwest, California and Mexico. This companion catalogue to the exhibition ‘Bernard Plossu, Les Voyages Mexicains’, shown at the Musée des Beaux-Arts et d'Archéologie de Besançon from 10 December 2011 until 2 April 2012, tells the story of his first journey through Mexico in numerous black and white and colour photographs, including intimate portraits, land- and cityscapes, and casual snapshots of everyday life.
