“ . . . I was witnessing a timeless environment—I could sense that things were the way they had been for ages.”
Hans Bol was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 1957, and now lives in the village of Ooij along the Waal River. His photographs have been included in numerous exhibitions and publications and are represented in the permanent collections of the Prentenkabinet, Leiden, The Netherlands; Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam; and the Fotomuseum Antwerpen, Antwerp, Belgium.
He has received major commissions to photograph the city of Antwerp, and the region of the Ooijpolder and Over-Betuwe in The Netherlands. In 2004 he published his first book, Het Formaat van Waterland (Waterland Images), a book combining his photographs with the poetry of Victor Vroomkoning. Altissimo, a book of his photographs made in the marble quarries around Carrara, Italy, is forthcoming. Bol is recognized as a master printer and is the printer for the Nederlands Fotomuseum.
