Jerome Liebling Photographs.
Essays by Anne Halley and Alan Trachtenberg. Photographs by Jerome Liebling.
University of Massachusetts Press, Amherst, 1982. 110 pp., 11x11".
The retrospective volume of this underrated American photographer contains many previously unpublished pictures. Liebling's early formative work began while he was a member of the Photo-League and continued with an independent series of pictures entitled "The Politicians," "Spain," "England," "The South Bronx," and more recently the superb set of images that comprise "The Handball Players." The essays in this beautifully printed book describe Liebling as one of the finest visual interpreters of contemporary life.
