The period under consideration in this handsome anthology from MIT was a crucial time for photography, as it became more and more accepted as a fine art in the realm of public and institutional collecting. Boston played a pivotal role in this development, as many museums, corporate sponsors, educators, and curators came into helpful alignment. Work by Minor White, Harold Edgerton, Nicholas Nixon, Nan Goldin, Harry Callahan, and Barbara Norfleet is included.
