Publisher's Description
This collection of photographs paints an intimate portrait of Tokyo, the city the Austrian-born photographer-filmmaker-graphic artist Edgar Honetsschläger has called home since 1991. Rejecting the ubiquitous imagery of skyscrapers, bullet trains, neon signs, and pedestrian and traffic-clogged streets, Honetschläger instead seeks the island of calm within urban Tokyo. Rare early-morning shots capture a still-deserted Tokyo at dawn, with an overcast sky and very few people in its famous streets. His Tokyo is a place of quiet gardens and reflection. The artist's own poetic observations are arranged like bookmarks among the photographs, which were taken with an ordinary medium-format camera. A beautiful book with re-frames the reader's thinking about Tokyo.
