The catalogue for the Nobuyoshi Araki Photobook Exhibition: Ararchy, which opened at the Izu Photo Museum in the spring of 2012.
This exhibition gathered the 450-plus photobooks that Araki has produced to date, and displayed them in a manner that allowed visitors to take most of the books in hand to view the photographs.
The catalogue documents all of the books Araki has published, beginning with the extremely rare Xeroxed Photo Album series produced in 1970, up until May 2012 (“The Complete Works of Nobuyoshi Araki, 1970–2012,” with color photographs of the book covers). It also introduces four volumes of photo scrapbooks—the prototypes of his photobooks—that Araki produced while he was still working for Dentsu prior to his debut. Finally, the book includes the powerful series made in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, ’11 3.11, along with essays and comments from 24 contributors.
