The first book that offers a comprehensive selection of Vishniac's photographs of the Jews of Eastern Europe before their extermination. Vishniac's images show a rare depth of understanding that only a native son can have for his people. In all, Vishniac made 16,000 negatives; he was only able to rescue 2,000 of these when he fled Nazi Europe. Of these, many were printed for the first time especially for this book. This first edition hardbound is in Fine condition with the original dustjacket.
