Photographs by Larry Towell.
292 pp., 119 duotone illustrations, 10x7½".
The Mennonites are a religious group who are most often compared to the Quakers, though their beliefs differ. Renowned Magnum photographer Larry Towell had unique access to the daily routines of their lives through a Mennonite family near his home in Ontario, and has spent the last 10 years photographing their communities in rural Ontario and Mexico. Powerful imagery and equally moving text, by Towell himself, makes this the most important body of work by the artist to date.
