Photographs by Jean Pagliuso.
Santa Fe/New York,
44 pp., black-and-white illustrations throughout, 13½x20".
An oversized, hand-made artist's book, Jean Pagliuso's Fragile Remains brings together pictures from New Mexico; India; Angkor Wat, Cambodia; Cappadocia, Turkey; and Machu Picchu, Peru. The images are digitally printed onto delicate hand-made Mulberry paper and bound by hand to a bamboo spine with a Japanese-style lashing stitch. The care taken in the construction of the book reinforces the elegance of the images themselves, which record some of the most ancient structures in the world with a diffuse, dream-like subtlety. The book itself is held by soft boards wrapped in linen, forming a protective envelope. Available in an extremely limited edition of fifty copies.
