Dream of a Place of Dreams.
Photographs by Keith Carter and Mauro Fiorese. Text by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
104 pp., 74 duotone illustrations, 11¾x11¾".
After several collaborative projects and journeys together, since 1997, these two artists have now turned their attention to the Principality of Monaco, the jeweled city on the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
It is clear the authors mutually respect each other, as well as the history and popular culture of Monaco but the real surprise in this collaborative view of Monaco is the unsentimental view of the Principality's rich cultural heritage and claims to fame.
Working often with shallow photographic focus, Carter and Fiorese call attention to the often overlooked and pedestrian, the ordinary unsung details that help define both a city and a culture.
This project began in 2006 thanks to the contribution of the Monaco Asia Society (MAS), a humanitarian NGO of which H.S.H. Prince Albert II is Honorary Chairman.
Uniquely approached from both a conceptual and visual viewpoint, these toned black and white photographs strip bare the surface contradictions of the tiny Principality, where Reality and Myth give birth to a Place of Dreams.
