Photographs by Melvin Sokolsky. Text by James rosenquist, Ali MacGraw and Raphaelle Stopin.
Melvin Sokolsky's photographs are deeply imaginative and challenge the aesthetic conventions of the advertising and editorial worlds. Reflecting the artist's fascination of Surrealist Art, Sokolsky's photographs explore and play with spatial relationships, scale, proportion, visual rationality, and the laws of physics. By using oversized furniture, upside down rooms, and dreamscape worlds, Sokolsky defines an aesthetic that continually creates images that transcend the clothes they purport to feature. Regardless of context, Sokolsky's work always provokes reflection.
