Georgia and Sabine are Natalie's miniature dachshunds, who she's been photographing for years. Taken at eye level in a domestic environment, these b&w portraits have an intimacy that takes the viewer closer to the thin line that separates we human animals from our pets. There is a sense of waiting and anticipation in these photographs that is unique to the routine life of a domesticated pet.
'Georgia and Sabine stands out of thousands, if not millions, of pet photographs because of its simplicity and intimacy. Natalie Young does not seek to show off how well-trained or smart her dogs are. Instead, she follows the rhythm of the everyday routine and daydreams of her pets. Her photographs do not intend to produce effects of training, nor performances. Her photographic clicks become portraits of family members. ... The particularity of Natalie Young’s pictures is in their capacity to welcome our most personal dreams and memories of togetherness and feeling at home.
