Between 2008 and 2010 London based photographer Sipke Visser sent 500 handwritten letters to random addresses all over the United Kingdom. He included one of his photographs and an envelope with a stamp and his address on it. In the letter he asked the recipient for a response: 'Write whatever you like. Something about the picture, yourself, the weather. About where you are, who you are, where you'd like to be. Or send me a picture, anything...'
Designed by Kummer & Herrman, 'Return to Sender' includes all the correspondence that was the result of this project and 127 of the photographs Sipke sent out. The reactions vary from emotional, angry or confused to books about the Bible, photographs and even a drawing of 'my mummy' by an 8 year old girl called Emilia. One of the highlights is perhaps the many letters sent between Sipke and Norma, a now retired lady from Alton. They still write to each other today.
