For many years, Japanese photographer Suda Issei has been recognized by his famous 'Fushi Kaden' series, in which Suda traveled in Japan and paid his attention to the traditional maturi people in early 1970's. However, his works never belong to documentary but a moment to reveal a spiritual uncertainty of human beings. In Monogatari of Pines, Suda presents two recent series:'Pines of Chiyoda' and 'Nude'. The ghostly landscapes and nude portraits were taken around Imperial Palace and in a closed room. Both series describe his interest in mononoke (the spirit of creature) of the objects. The beautiful and sensitive black and white photographs can be referred to traditional Japanese sumi paintings and religions. They also let us see the photographer's essence of the medium photography.
Monogatari of Pines is in conjunction with the same name exhibition in aura gallery beijing in 2013. Limited edition of 1000.
