Photographs by Marc Mulders. Essays by Hans den Hartog Jager and Jaap Goedegebuure.
Artimo, Amsterdam, 2005. 80 pp., Illustrated throughout, 9½x11¾".
Marc Mulders is known for his paintings, but this book focuses entirely on his photographs and photocollages. Once created solely as sketches for paintings, these works have increasingly become semi-autonomous images. Mulders composes objects, often with flowers, on the floor of his studio and photographs them with a cinematographer’s discerning eye. The resulting images are eerie yet strangely beautiful-presented here, these photoworks underscore that process is crucial to an artist, and sometimes becomes a work of art in and of itself.
