Fish of Hope.
Photographs by Nicole Zachmann.
Editions Patrick Frey, 2010. 126 pp., Color and black & white illustrations throughout, 8½x11½".
Basel photographer Nicole Zachmann has made an intensive study of portrait photography over the last twenty years. In the mid 1980s she took photographs of activists from the music and art subculture in Basel. She succeeds, without a hint of nostalgia, to re-create the lifestyle of those stylistically confusing years between Punk and Pop culture.
