Photographs by G.R.A.M.
Fotohof Editions, 2009. 248 pp., 400 black & white and color illustrations, 8¾x11".
The Austria-based group, G.R.A.M., digs into our culture’s fetish with celebrity
to produce this remarkable exhibition catalog that erases the line between
fact – whatever that is – and fiction. Picking up here where the Actionists left off,
G.R.A.M. plays with voyeurism, deceit and the rules of media, using paparazzi-style
photography and manipulated images to re-contextualize boring everyday scenes
into dramatic moments loaded with secrets. Mixing images of the famous
(Barack Obama, David Beckham, Kate Moss, Paris Hilton) with the non-famous,
the artists create a seductive no-man´s-land between the private and the public,
a gray zone between reality and non-reality.
