"To this viewer [Winogrand] seems, in fact, the central photographer of his generation."-John Szarkowski. With these words, Szarkowski, then Director of the Department of Photography at The Museum of Modern Art, New York propelled Winogrand into the canon of great twentieth century photographers. Figments from the Real World was the first comprehensive overview of Winogrand's work. It has long been out-of-print and sought after for its lavishly printed plates complemented by Szarkowski's articulate essay. In this reissue, Winogrand's work has been grouped as it was in the original edition-Eisenhower Years, The Street, Women, The Zoo, On the Road, The Sixties, Etc, The Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo, Airport, and Unfinished Work. This faithful reprint makes Winogrand's important work available once again.
