We Love Britain! Photographs.

What does Hanover have to do with the United Kingdom and British Magnum photographer Martin Parr? Quite a lot, actually! Firstly, Hanover is celebrating the 300th anniversary of the coronation of Hanoverian Prince-Elector George Louis as King George I of Great Britain and Ireland. Secondly, the Sprengel Museum Hanover felt that no one was better suited than Martin Parr when it came to taking a tongue-in-cheek look at local Anglo-German history. Parr set out at the museum's behest in search of things British in and around Hanover. He visited the Lady Di Club in Hameln; the 'Britfest' in Paderborn; the reenactment group 'King's German Legion' in Hanover; a local celebration in honor of the Queen's birthday; the world's largest marksmen's festival, held annually in hanover; and British garrisons that were preparing to pull out. Under the fraternal motto 'We love Britain!' the upshot of his photographic quest can be viewed at the Sprengel Museum beginning in October 2014 and in the accompanying catalog.
