Photographs by Ron Van Dongen.
56 pp., 32 duotone illustrations, 14x17".
Three previous volumes of van Dongen's lush, botanical still-lifes have been published before; all three have been characterized by a sensitivity of seeing thoroughly complemented by the detail of the large-format negatives he uses to make his prints. This fourth volume, in the same oversize dimensions as the other three volumes, presents another 32 images, ranging from bunches of grapes to a wide variety of flower specimens. All of the work is enhanced by the knowledge that he grows his own subject matter, a tenderness of care and nurturing that is evident in the photographs. His careful arrangements and dramatic use of near-white tones is sheer pleasure to behold.
