On the Way to an Ambush.
Text and photographs by Bruce Connew.
Victoria University Press, Wellington, 1999. 175 pp., 75 black-and-white and color illustrations, 6x8½".

This smartly designed piece of photojournalistic work follows New Zealand photographer Connew on a journey into the Burmese jungle as he spends time covering the Karen Rebels--a minority group in Burma who oppose the ruling elite. Connew's photography is excellent, his writing engaging, and the emotional impact of this work undeniable.
