Stephen Daiter Gallery, Chicago, 2001. 36 pp., 26 duotone illustrations, 8½x10½".
Andre Kertesz stands as one of the twentieth century's great photographers. Born in Hungary just before the turn of the century, his photographic career began in 1912 and spanned a terrific 73 years, towards the end of which he achieved widespread recognition and fame. His early years in New York City, his home since 1936, were characterized by hardship and a near overwhelming dearth of commercial work. Nevertheless, he continued to photograph and a fine sampling of images made in the great metropolis are presented in this catalogue.
