Publisher's Description
For over 25 years, Richard Bram has been restlessly walking the streets of his home towns and the world, quietly producing classic street photographs. This first collection of his images is a distillation of his formidable body of work including the ongoing documentation of the London Underground as well as his earlier work as a Public Relations photographer in Louisville, Kentucky. His studio is the street: He says of his pictures that they '...are my personal visual diary: they are not staged or artificially created. Reality is strange enough.' Here more than anywhere, what count are the art of a selective glance and the gift of anticipating what is coming. Bram has an unerring photographic instinct for extraordinary situations, ever seeking the little but significant glance or gesture. His pictures capture everyday moments humorously, sometimes sarcastically or ironically, yet always full of sympathy for the protagonists of his scenes. His work is included in the collections of the George Eastman House/International Museum of Photography, The Bibliothèque national de France, the National Endowment for the Arts and many institutional, corporate and private collections.
