Ten.
Edited by Gavin Rooke. Numerous contributing photographers.
Society of Photographers, Johannesburg, 2006. Unpaged, 5¼x8".

Publisher's Description
'T E N' is designed to place photographic images in context. A photograph seen out of context must explain its full meaning in isolation. A photograph seen in context of the circumstances or events that form the environment within which it was taken - can be appreciated at a different level entirely. Members of the Society were invited to submit 10 images preceded by their own word-based guiding principles summarising the environment within which the photographs were taken. All members of the Society and an extensive list of invited guest judges from the international photographic art world then reviewed all work within context. Authors remained anonymous throughout this process. Only the ten highest voted panels of work were included in the Society's book 'T E N' and form the physical exhibition occurring in Johannesburg, New York and London. The Johannesburg launch exhibition occurred on 23 November 2006 at the Premises Gallery / Civic Theatre.

The book is purposefully designed to mimic a physical photographic exhibition where work is viewed in a continuous series to be appreciated as a whole, as against individual works being isolated on a single page of a book. The book unfolds as a continuous series of approximately 19 meters. 'T E N' will recur on an annual basis.
