Photographs by Seiichi Furuya.
Fotohof Editions w/ Akaaka,
312 pp., 353 b&w and 37 color illustrations, 9x7½".
A prelude to Seiichi Furuya’s previous volume, exploring his wife Christine Furuya-Gössler’s suicide, this heartbreaking collection of black-and-white photographs includes virtually all of Christine’s diary entries for the year 1983, including her stay in a mental hospital. A kind of “year in the life,” the book includes posed portraits of Christine, candids of her with her son and other family members, and ordinary situations like excursions to the Austrian countryside. A tribute of everyday beauty from a husband to a beloved wife.
