Photographs by Hans Bol.
6 pp., 21 black & white illustrations, 9½x11¾".
Two weeks after Paradise City was published photographer Hans Bol visited the quarries again. Coincidentally he discovered that the 7 tablets that showed Saint Francis of Assisi’s beautiful poem Cantico del Frate Sole had disappeared – probably stolen by copper thieves. They were located above the village of Azzano along the path that leads up to Monte Altissimo where the cover photo of Paradise City was made.
Because Assisi’s poem plays a central role in Paradise City and has been included as a whole in the book, Bol felt the need to make a separate afterword to stress this stupefying fact. Paradise City – Afterword/Nawoord/Nachwort is a folded booklet containing a short explanatory text in English/Dutch/German and shows 21 b&w reproductions; it comes in a transparent cellophane envelope, and fits in the back of Paradise City. Design, size, print and typeface are of course identical to Paradise City.
