Mid.
Photographs by Cozue Takagi.
AKAAKA Art Publishing, 2009. 56 pp., color illustrations, 14½x10".

Publisher's Description
Published at the age of 24, Cozue Takagi's 'MID' won the prestigious Ihee Kimura Photography Award in 2009. 'MID' is a beguiling work, in which Takagi creates a world using fleeting images of natural elements like trees, cows, snow and humans. This connection with nature leads critic Kotaro Iizawa to call Takagi a 'still young, lovely shaman.' The flash of Takagi's camera sometimes leaves her subjects isolated from their context, which heightens the disorientation viewers may feel at first. Individually, the photographs in 'MID' appear to be composed roughly, and to speak in terms of music, the book does not have an easy rhythm to follow. But like a complex jazz composition, repeated exposures to “MID” yield new and fascinating impressions. Includes English versions of a text by noted photography critic Kotaro Iizawa, and a biographical note.
